Tabitha (1988)
Based on Wisdom of Solomon 7:22
Many traditional wisdom and female symbols are incorporated in this tapestry, including the river, the trees, the mirrors, the moon and the woman. Tabitha is the figure of my great-great-grandmother, Tabitha Bagwell, a Cherokee. Tabitha does not merely reflect God, as in traditional female/moon symbolism, but she is pregnant with life, herself a direct source of God's incarnate wisdom. Collage and embroidery. 24" x 50".
