Holy One

"The Lord..."

This is the first of twelve pieces based on the Twenty-third Psalm, created in 2003. It begins by restating the opening phrase, "the Lord," as "the Holy One." Each panel in the series is made from "beach glass" found along Richland Creek in Waynesville, NC. There are pieces of broken wine, coke, and beer bottles, crockery, medicine bottles, and other broken glass which has been tumbled in the water until sharp edges are knocked off and the surface is frosted. The flat glass backgrounds are made of shards from a glass shop. They are affixed over a tissue paper collage onto wood. A few pieces of Italian glass mosaic tiles have been used as highlights. The entire meditation is an attempt to find meaning, and perhaps beauty, in the discarded -- a gift from Wisdom's Table.
