A Few Hints: Use the Site map to go from web page to web page. Use "Find" ("control" key plus "F" key) to get a window in which you can type a word or number that you want your computer to find for you on a web page. Highlight a part of a web page and use the "selection" option in print window (select "File" at the top left of the screen and then select "Print") to print the highlighted part of the web page. Most of the pages on this web site contain historical information about the development of the families of the people of the United States of America. No one person can claim credit for all of the research which has been required to collect the data which I have analyzed and am disseminating on this web site. Other than my personal research, inherited information which my parents researched, and sometimes information from the books of the Sigler Family Organization edited by Robert Howard Sigler and Gregory L. Watson, I have given credit for my sources. If an author does not give credit to his or her sources then the author not only takes credit for the source's correct information but also for the source's mistakes. That would be unfair to both the source and the author. This is our history and is meant to be read and disseminated by anyone who desires to do so. However, if material from this web site is copied, printed, and/or published on other web sites, in books, or in research papers it would be very much appreciated if I and this web site were given credit as being the most immediate source for the material. A link to this web site would also be appreciated.

CHILDREN OF THE TRADEWATER THE DESCENDENTS OF JACOB'S AND MARGARET'S CHILDREN JOHN, MARGARET (HOLEMAN), DAVID, JACOB, GEORGE, AND ELIZABETH (NALL, PURDY) AND MARY'S SON, GEORGE WALES
Jacob Sigler and Margaret moved with their family from Loudoun County, Virginia, to Iredell County, North Carolina, during the last part of the 1700's. Then John, Jacob Sigler and Margaret's son, moved to Robertson County, Tennessee. John's wife and children, Mary's son, George, and another five of the ten children of Jacob Sigler and Margaret moved into the basin of the Tradewater River in Western Kentucky during the first two decades of the 1800's. The Tradewater River marks parts of the boundaries of the Kentucky counties Union, Webster, Hopkins, Caldwell, and Crittenden and originates in Christian County, Kentucky. Tradewater River Basin Map The "Children of the Tradewater" have lived in Western Kentucky for almost two centuries and some of the descendants of the "Children of the Tradewater" were reunited in Princeton, Kentucky, on May 20, 2000 2000, and in Henderson, Kentucky, on June 22, 2002 2002. The next reunion is being planned for 2004 2004. Contact Dorothy Lauver Mdotbl@aol.com for information. Although we have not had non-Tradewater descendants attending our reunions, all descendants of Jacob Sigler and Margaret of Virginia and North Carolina are welcome at our reunions. Other children of Jacob Sigler and Margaret are buried in Grainger County, Tennessee, (Phillip), Champaign County, Illinois, (Catherine Bucy (Busey)) and Bartholomew County, Indiana, (Mary Wales). Another son, Laurence, was last known to have lived in North Carolina.

Wolf's is located at the corner of Green and First in downtown Henderson. Green is also U. S. 60 and U. S. 41 Alternate. The photo shows the view from Green looking east. Wolf's is located across the street from Hardee's and is about three miles from the Sleep Inn. The official motel for the reunion is the Sleep Inn. The Sleep Inn is offering special discount rates for those attending the reunion. The Sleep Inn is located behind Ponderosa Steak House on U. The photo shows the view from the highway side of the motel. The program for the 2002 reunion will consist of a question and answer session about the history of the family. Bring your questions and your research materials with you to the reunion. It might be best to write down your questions before you get to the reunion and bring writing materials or a laptop computer with you for note taking purposes. Visit Chalybeate Cemetery Questions for the Reunion Question and Answer Discussion Sigler Book 2002 Edition List of Cousins Attending the Reunion and Their Lines Back to Jacob and Margaret of North Carolina
Tentative Scheldule This tentative schedule is from Cousin Dorothy Lauver (Dot), the 2002 Reunion administrator. Folks should start arriving after 10 AM and will sign in and visit until lunch, which should be about 12PM - There will be a short program and when we are finished with the question and answer part, there should be a SHORT memorial too our ancestors. If anyone has a question that they would like answered, I will have paper ready for them to use. They can write it out after they get here, or some may have their questions ready before they arrive. /(^.^)\ Dottie Lou
Chalybeate Cemetery Visit For those planning to go to the cemetery at Chlaybeate it appears that the best route is to take U. S. 41 Alternate south to Dixon, then Kentucky 983 about 8.4 miles east to the Chalybeate Cemetery Road. The road is marked with a street sign which says Chalybeate Cem Road. The cemetery is about a half mile off of the main road. There is a grassy area in front of the cemetery where the church was once located which can be used for parking. The distance to the cemetery from Wolf's is about thirty-four miles and the distance from the Sleep Inn is about 37 miles. There is a bypass around Henderson which connects with U. S. 41 Alternate but I did not use it when I calculated the distances. The county maintained cemetery road ends in the northeast corner of the cemetery property but the road continues beyond he cemetery onto private property. The grassy parking area is on the north side of the cemetery. An old carriage road once circled the cemetery but the only part of it that remains is on the west side of the cemetery. Another road has been made through the cemetery on the east side of the cemetery. Grave stones are on both sides of that road and I have been told that there are some graves beneath that road. The stones in the cemetery do not necessarily mark graves. Over the years some of the stones have been moved to different locations in the cemetery. This is not uncommon in abandoned cemeteries. The stones for three of the sons of Jacob Sigler and Malinda Roberts are are on the west side of the cemetery. The stones for Francis Jett Sigler and his family are in the northwest area of the cemetery along the old carriage road. The stones for David Sigler and his family are directly south of the stones for Francis Jett's family. The stones for Jesse Sigler and his family are in the southwest area of the cemetery near the end of the road which starts on the north east corner of the cemetery. The stones for the family of Isaac Sigler's family are on the northeast corner of the cemetery. However, it is not known if Isaac is buried in the cemetery. The stones for Jacob Sigler and Malinda Roberts are located about fifty feet east of the stones for David Sigler and Francis Jett Sigler. Other Sigler stones are found on the southeast corner of the cemetery. The stones for William French Holeman and his wife, Nancy W. Holeman, are found in the southeast section of the cemetery on the west side of the road which starts on the northeast corner of the cemetery. Stones for the Hearin and Russell families are also in that area. The stone for Patience Sigler Morehead is located west of the Holeman and Russell stones. There is an area in the center of the cemetery with very few, if any, stones. I was told by my grandfather that many people were buried in the cemetery and did not have stones. They may have been buried in that area. Also, some stones have been reported to have been removed from the cemetery. The cemetery is overgrown and there is the risk of poison ivy and chiggers. Wear clothing that covers yours legs and ankles and shoes that cover your feet. A pair of work gloves and a small broom to make the stones more readable might also prove useful. Keep your eyes open for poison ivy and try to avoid it when you walk through the cemetery. Also, pick up a piece of the ground clutter (fallen tree branches, etc.) while you are in the cemetery and take it with you back to the grassy clearing. Several descendants of the cemetery and their families have been trying to clean up the cemetery over the last year or so and every little bit helps.
Questions For the Reunion Question and Answer Discussion
"Just a gentle suggestion that when there is a question and answer session, there is a possibility that disagreements may arise. Maybe it would be a good idea to emphasize this as a furtherance of research and an effort to help one another." It is hoped that this comment by Cousin Paul Sigler in Oklahoma will set the mood for the question and answer discussion. Cousin Paul once served as the pastor of a church and has volunteered to officiate at a worship service at the Chalybeate Cemetery if people attending the reunion are interested in having a service there.
1. Who was Jacob Sigler and Margaret's son David? What was his role in the development of the Sigler community as it grew and developed in the Tradewater River Basin. What children, if any, did he have? What happened to his estate when he died and what was David's relationship to James Keeney? 2. Who was Jacob Sigler and Margaret's son John? What was his role in leading the Sigler community westward into the Tradewater River Basin? Why did he die at such a young age compared to his parents and siblings? Why did John's wife and children abruptly leave Robertson County, Tennessee, when John died and John and Nancy's children intermarry with the children of John's brothers and sisters in the Tradewater River Basin? Why was John's brother, David, given power of attorney to go back to Robertson County, Tennessee, to settle John's estate instead of John's wife and children returning to settle the estate or staying there long enough to settle it themselves? 3. The children of Jacob Sigler and Margaret married the children of the North Carolina families of William Nall and Rebecca Holloway, George Wales and Jane Irvin, Issac Holeman and Mary Benton Hardy, Sentlenger Beck and Unknown, Matthew Bucy and Edith Philpot Wilcoxon, and William Holeman and Elizabeth Johnson and the Robertson County, Tennessee, family of Kinchen Jones and Unknown. Who were these families and how many of these families were in Loudoun County, Virginia, area at the same time that Jacob Sigler and Margaret were married? Who were the Bucy's and when did they arrive in the colonies? One source says that the Bucy's were French, came into the colonies during the 1600's, and lived in Loudoun County, Virginia, before moving to North Carolina. 4. Who was Jacob Sigler and Margaret's son, Laurence, and what happened to him? 5. With what religious denominations were the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Jacob Sigler and Margaret associated in North Carolina, Tennessee, and the Tradewater River Basin? What influence did Reverend Edmund Wilcox of the Methodist Episcopal Church have on the establishment of Chalybeate as a Methodist community? What influence did the General Baptist Association of Indiana have in establishing an Association in Kentucky with Jacob Holeman in a leadership role and in establishing Amos Mansfield Sigler's church at Shady Grove and possibly the original Liberty Church in Caldwell County, known to most people as a Presbyterian church. One source says that Amos was a Baptist minister. Did John's (son of Jacob Sigler and Margaret) sons John (who lived near Princeton), Amos (who lived near Shady Grove), and Jacob (who lived at Chalybeate), and the Liberty community have any contacts or associations with people interested in prohibiting involuntary servitude?
From Cousin Todd Shelton
Do you know about any of our past cousins affiliation with the Masons?
From Cousin Virginia Sigler Omer Do you know how Nadine Horning, who owns the farm where Amos Sigler
is buried, fits into our family tree?
Many of the people who are attending the reunion are grandparents. Some of the younger members of the family would like to have stories from them on topics like the following from Cousin Maria Troutman. Cousin Maria is the Union County, Kentucky, coordinator for the Kentucky Gen Web Project but will not be able to attend the reunion. If the senior members of the family could write down a collection of such stories and bring them to me at the reunion or email them to me , I could publish them on this web site. Like your earliest memory? Or a family tale or tradition that has been passed down. For older generations (older than me anyway), do you remember when your home got a TV, what was the reaction in your home? Or what did they do before they married or what were some of their earlier jobs? Any dating memories? What was Christmas like as a child?
Sigler Book (2002 Edition) For Sale At The Reunion Cousin Greg Watson will be attending the reunion and will have a hard bound book available for purchase. The title of the book is Descendants of Jacob Sigler 1736 - 1817. It is essentially the Sigler Book (1996 Edition) which I frequently quote on this site and was originally published by Cousin Robert Howard Sigler of Knoxville, Tennessee. However, Cousin Greg has added several thousand additional names and 17,529 names are published in this book is . Wills and other documents are printed in the body of the book in the entry for the associated person. 2020 footnotes as well as information in the text of the of the book identify the location of the courthouse records and other sources of information for some of the data in the book. An index of names with respective page numbers is listed at the end of the book. The price for the 821 page book (8.5" x 11" pages) is currently $80.00. Greg says that this represents only the cost of printing the book and approximate shipping costs. The book was printed by Evansville Bindery, Inc., Evansville, Indiana. No book will ever contain all the names of the descendants of anyone. More descendants are being found every day by family history researchers and more descendants are being created every day by the living descendants. A copy of the book can be obtained before the reunion by contacting Greg Watson. Email me to obtain his mailing address if you want a copy of the book before the reunion.
