A Few Hints: Use the Site map to go from web page to web page. Use "Find" ("control" key plus "F" key) to get a window in which you can type a word or number that you want your computer to find for you on a web page. Highlight a part of a web page and use the "selection" option in print window (select "File" at the top left of the screen and then select "Print") to print the highlighted part of the web page. Most of the pages on this web site contain historical information about the development of the families of the people of the United States of America. No one person can claim credit for all of the research which has been required to collect the data which I have analyzed and am disseminating on this web site. Other than my personal research, inherited information which my parents researched, and sometimes information from the books of the Sigler Family Organization edited by Robert Howard Sigler and Gregory L. Watson, I have given credit for my sources. If an author does not give credit to his or her sources then the author not only takes credit for the source's correct information but also for the source's mistakes. That would be unfair to both the source and the author. This is our history and is meant to be read and disseminated by anyone who desires to do so. However, if material from this web site is copied, printed, and/or published on other web sites, in books, or in research papers it would be very much appreciated if I and this web site were given credit as being the most immediate source for the material. A link to this web site would also be appreciated.

This is a support page for what I call the "Sigler Book". The first edition was the 1996 Edition. The second edition is the 2002 Edition. No one person is responsible for the contents of either of the editions. The Sigler Book is a collection of facts, stories, and documents researched and collected over the decades of the last half of the 1900's and into the 2000's.

The Decendents of Jacob Sigler (1736-1817) The 1996 edition was assembled by Robert Howard Sigler of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is a triple descendant of Jacob Sigler and Margaret through John, Margaret, and Jacob. Both Robert Howard Sigler and I, Willie Joe Sigler, attended and graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah, Kentucky. On several occasions I was asked by my teachers if I was his son. My father's name was Robert Henry Sigler and on the school records it was Robert H. Sigler. My father is the Bob Sigler mentioned in Robert Howard Sigler's introduction to the 1996 Edition which is below.
I wish to to express my thanks and appreciation to Mildred Baker and Greg Watson, both of Caldwell Co., and to Bob Sigler (Deceased) Paducah, McCracken Co. Kentucky for giving me access to their 40 years of research data, and to the others who have contributed to the data that completed the Sigler family saga. My contribution to this project, other than visiting the grave site of Jacob Sigler and established the birth date as being 1736, has been the combining of this material and editing, as best I could, for mistakes. As this project is on-going, I would appreciate any help as far as mistakes with names, dates, children, mothers, fathers, etc. Robert H. Sigler, 9/20/1996
The 1996 edition was a paperback book with 165 pages and 615 numbered descendants. The text was 134 pages of data and 31 pages of introduction and name index. It had many errors but it was a fantastic reference.
Descendants of Jacob Sigler 1736 - 1817 Caldwell County, Kentucky, Ancestors Some Descendants of Jacob Sigler 1736 - 1817 17,529 Person Index By Gregory L. Watson
The 2002 edition was assembled by Greg Watson of Princeton, Kentucky. Greg Watson, like Robert Howard Sigler, is a triple descendant of Jacob Sigler and Margaret through John, Margaret, and Jacob. However their common ancestors are Robert Howard's great grandparents and Greg's great great grandparents. The 2002 edition is essentially the Sigler Book (1996 Edition) which I frequently quote on this site and was originally published by Cousin Robert Howard Sigler of Knoxville, Tennessee. However, Cousin Greg has added several thousand additional names and 17,529 names are published in this book is . Wills and other documents are printed in the body of the book in the entry for the associated person. 2020 footnotes as well as information in the text of the of the book identify the location of the courthouse records and other sources of information for some of the data in the book. An index of names with respective page numbers is listed at the end of the book. The book was printed by Evansville Bindery, Inc., Evansville, Indiana. No book will ever contain all the names of the descendants of anyone. More descendants are being found every day by family history researchers and more descendants are being created every day by the living descendants. Cousin Greg has copyrighted the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book. However, the following statements are on the copyright page. "This material is copyrighted and is not to be copied by anyone in any form for monetary gain without the consent and written permission of the compiler. In keeping with Genealogical protocol this material is not to be published on the internet with any living person's date of birth included. This material is intended for Genealogical Research only and may be used for that purpose by anyone." This simply means " Do not scan the pages into a computer or make photocopies and sell them to others at a profit." All that is required is giving the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book credit when the material is used as source material.
Dates And Origin of County Formation Political Geography
In order to understand and appreciate much of what is in the book, it is necessary to have an understanding of the dates of the formation of the counties and names of the counties from which they came. The chart below may help. For instance, if a person was born in Henderson County in 1799, married in Union County in 1816, and died in Webster County in 1866, it is possible that all three activities took place in the same house (log cabin). Keep in mind time references and political boundary changes. Some researchers convert the county names and some do not. References to Webster County before 1860 could be recorded in the court houses of either Henderson County, Union County, or Hopkins County.

Cousin Marriages
Unless stated otherwise the source of this data is the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book (Greg Watson). This article is being presented as a research tool to provide a better understanding of the family relationships of the descendants of Jacob Sigler and Margaret of North Carolina and Virginia. The numbers before the names of the people are references to their numbers in the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book. Margaret's children were the first five to marry cousins. The first two married daughters of John while the third married a son of John. The fourth married a son of Elizabeth and the fifth married a daughter of George. The entire group of at least thirty-four cousin to cousin marriages involving the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of the sons and daughters of Jacob Sigler and Margaret of Virginia and North Carolina who settled in the Tradewater River Basin of western Kentucky was a play with most of the leading men being supplied by Margaret and her descendants and most of the leading ladies being supplied by John and his descendants. Other members of the cast, to a much lesser degree, were supplied by Elizabeth, Jacob, George, and possibly David. Most of the marriages took place in Caldwell County, Kentucky, but others took place in Hopkins and Union (Webster) Counties in Kentucky and other counties in Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee.

This is also reflected by the gravestones in Old Chalybeate Cemetery. William H. Hall (1845-?) and his 62 year old wife, Mahaley E. David Sigler - Levi Sigler Relationship
There has been a dispute over the decades with regard to the relationship of David, son of Jacob and Margaret of North Carolina, and Levi. Some researchers believe that Levi was a son of David. Other researchers believe that Levi may have been taken in as an orphan and took the last name Sigler. The chronology below has been taken from a combination of the materials left to me by my father, Robert Henry Sigler, and the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book. The 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book contains a substantial discussion of this issue. I have discussed this controversial issue with Greg Watson and we are both in agreement that there is not enough information to either prove or disprove the relationship of David and Levi. We do not have records of Levi inheriting any part of David's estate. However, it is to be noted that David's widow only inherited one-third of the estate. Several of David's brothers and sisters inherited a part of the estate and the percentage is not mentioned. A formal written will for David has not yet been found and David could have given Levi and possible other children their part of his estate before he died. This is evidenced by David giving his wagon and gearing to James Keeny a few days before he died. David could have had a policy of giving away his possessions before he died so that he would have an assurance of who the recipients were. David Sigler's family Bible is in possession of a family which indicates that they are descendants of David Sigler. 1775 David Sigler was born on December 14 in Loudoun County, Virginia. David was the son of Jacob Sigler and Margaret. 1777 Margaret Beck was born on June 12 in North Carolina. Margaret Beck was the daughter of Sentleger Beck. 1797 David Sigler married Margaret Beck on February 4 in Surry County, North Carolina. The marriage is recorded in Marriage Bond Book, page 208, Surry County, North Carolina. 1802 Levi Sigler was born in North Carolina. The location of birth is according to the 2002 Edition of the Sigler Book. 1807 Ada Beck was born on April 4 in Livingston County, Kentucky. Ada was the daughter of Thomas J. Beck and Nancy Ann Vicars. Crittenden County, Kentucky, was a part of Livingston, County, Kentucky, at that time. 1822 Levi Sigler married Patsy Read on January 21 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Patsy was the daughter of Reuben Read. 1829 Levi Sigler married Ada Beck on April 4 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. 1840 David Sigler made an oral will giving his friend, James Keeny, his wagon and gearing. This is recorded in Will Book B, Page 44, Caldwell County, Kentucky. David Sigler died on September 16 in Caldwell County, Kentucky. On November 16, a court in Caldwell County, Kentucky, ruled that David Sigler did not have any children. The case was Sigler vs Sigler and is recorded in Court Order Book F, page 215, November 1840, Administrator's Bonds 1837-1841. 1845 Mary Sigler Wales is identified as an heir of the David Sigler estate in Deed Book "M", page 349, Caldwell County, Kentucky. 1846 Mary Sigler Wales is awarded $30.00 on March 30. 1847 Margaret Beck sold her one-third part of the estate to James Keeny. The remainder of a 200 acre tract of land in David Sigler's estate was sold to James Keeny by the heirs of David's estate, all but one of which were David's brothers and sisters. This is recorded in Deed Book "O", pages 27 and 28, Caldwell County, Kentucky. The date is March 24. 1859 Margaret Beck died on May 13 in Caldwell County, Kentucky, and was buried in the Sigler Cemetery. 1881 Levi Sigler died on June 20 in Webster County, Kentucky. Levi's will is in Will Book 1, pages 444 and 445, Webster County, Kentucky. 1951 An article published in the Caldwell County Times said that the Boster family had possession of the family Bible of David Sigler. The dates of death for David and Margaret are correct. The article says that the bible is a keepsake of Mrs. Boster's (Arbie Sigler) father. Arbie Sigler's father, David, was a grandson of both Levi Basset Sigler and Amos Mansfield Sigler, who was supposed to be the administrator of David's estate. The same court order which stated that David did not have any children also refused Amos Mansfield Sigler the right to be the administrator of David's estate. The Bible was probably passed down the line from either Levi or Amos to Francis and Margaret to David to Arbie (Arby). Francis was the son of Amos and Margaret was the daughter of Levi.
Descendants of Nancy Jane Sigler (George, Jacob) Nancy Jane Sigler is number 88 in the Sigler Book. Her descendants are not listed in the Sigler Book. This information was forwarded to me by Bill James from Dennis James as a part of his list of descendants of Howell James (ca 1640 - 1717) who was born in Manmouthshire, Wales and immigrated to Pennsylvania sometime before the early 1660's. Mamie Tate, also of the Sigler Family history researchers group, provided substantial editing of the information provided by Dennis James. What is presented below is a composite of those two sources. The James Family history researchers group includes Johnnie Wayne Brown, Maxine Dark, Warren G. Helms, William "Bill" James, Jane James, Bill Jones, and Mamie Tate. Some or all may have contributed to the information below.
