ISSUES

1.) FLOODING - One of the biggest issues along the Village Creek watershed is flooding.  In 1997 Dr. Mable Anderson's flood coalition received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in order to buyout 135 homes in the worst flood zones along Village Creek.
2.) LANDFILLS - In Spring of 2001 Meredith Environmental Inc. applied for a permit for a C & D landfill in the Village Creek watershed.  This proposed landfill will be placed on abandoned mining operations.  The Village Creek Society and many citizens in the watershed are adamantly opposed to this landfill because of the possibility of numerous toxins leaking into the watershed.

3.) DURSBAN - In October of 1997 a chemical warehouse storing the now illegal Dursban pesticide caught fire releasing thousands of gallons of the toxic chemical.  The warehouse contained more than 4,000 gallons of the concentrated Dursban pesticide.  One week after the fire Dusrban concentration levels were about six parts per billion in our creek.  In Bayview Lake alone over 78,000 fish, predominately game fish such as bass and crappie, were killed.
