Accomplishments:
1.)
Creekkeeper program - In February 2001, the Village Creek
Society was licensed as the nation’s first Creekkeeper
program under the international Waterkeeper Alliance, led by
Bobby Kennedy, Jr.
2.)
Membership drive - 2001 membership drive successfully
enrolled over 400 new and special members to the Village
Creek Society.
Ongoing
projects:
1.)
Village Creek water re-classification - The Village Creek
Society has been meeting with the Alabama Department of
Environmental Management and the Environmental Protection
Agency since 1999, to upgrade water quality from
Agricultural and Industrial to Residential and Human Life.
2.)
Clinical health project - To address health concerns of
Village Creek stakeholders that have been exposed to known
toxins in the watershed.
