The tomato plants are suspended by strings from the top of the greenhouse and are lowered as the plants grow to the top. As you lower the plants you break off the lower leaves leaving the bare vines curled up on the top of the bags and on the floor. This is a lot of work when your greenhouse is only seven feet high at the highest point. Next year I am going to rebuild the greenhouse making the outside walls about four feet high. This will give me more head room. Below are a few pictures inside the greenhouse.
I picked my first ripe tomato a week before Thanksgiving.
The tomatoes have produced well
but they
ripen slowly. We have had many
cool nights
this winter and I think that
keeps them from
ripening very fast.
Its a jungle inside. Its hard
to take a picture inside
because everything is so close.
Next year I will have
a double layer of plastic on
the greenhouse and
use a small blower to keep the
layers seperated
This will make it easier to
heat. I heat with a wood
heater and believe me it is
very hard to heat a plastic
house.
