Halloween at Sandy and Jimmy’s on Davidson
Court. They lived in a one way court at the very end. I think this is Lexington
Ky. in late 1968. I had just met Laurel and we had just moved to Ky. We
were living above Sandy and Jimmy. I decided to dress up for Halloween
as I was kinda wild looking anyway, laurel had cleaned me up a bit, but
my hair was still a little wild looking. Sandy found some of Jimmy’s old
tattered clothes. Sandy and Laurel painted up my face with a few scars,
tucked a towel under my shirt at the shoulders, kinda humpy. Dusted my
hair with baby powder and made a rope chain and tied it around my neck.
We put speakers in the upstairs windows and put on scary Halloween
music. We lit up the entrance walkway with jacko latterns and candles.
They handed me the tray of candy. They held on to one end of the leash
and I hobbled to the door when some trick or treater came by. I acted egorish,
mute and tame, “he won’t hurt you”, Sandy said as trick or treaters came
by. I held out the tray stooped over and in the shadows.
