Hi, my name is Dan and I am a very happily attached gay man. My partner is Mike. We own a home in southern Louisiana.
We were both born in the same small town (New Iberia), and we still live here. It's a nice little southern town. I like to describe it as one of those towns that isn't quite "small town", and isn't quite "big city". We're famous for farming sugar cane, mining salt, and there are tons of oilfield support companies in the area. There is also one grossly over-rated pepper sauce manufactured in the area. I'm forbidden from mentioning this product on my site due to copy write law and the fact the the manufacturer deemed my site "not suitable". There are several other smaller pepper sauce manufacturers in the area and they are all good. As soon as I can assure that I have the appropriate permissions, I will include links to their sites.
Mike and I met in August 1990. I was 29 years old and he was 38. Mike was married at the time (oops). He has two children from his marriage, both of them are now married. His daughter, Shawn just recently added a grandchild (Allison) to the picture. His son Shane and his wife Hope are expecting next October (2005). I'm getting the feeling that these grandchildren are going to be VERY spoiled. Allison is well on her way already. You can see pictures of the kids, and the Allison by clicking on Mike's name to the left.
If you're at all curious about how we met, click on the link to the left. I got tired of having to repeat this story over and over and figured it was easier just to write it down.
I was originally an electrician by trade, for 17 years I was a maintenance superintendent for a research facility.I was originally in charge of electrical, air conditioning, heating, and communications. Eventually I began doing a lot of coordinating with contractors, architects, and engineers. I loved what I did most of the time, and it gave plenty of meaning to my life, but all good things come to an end. Over the past several years multiple problems with the facility, personnel and disagreements with the management caused me intense stress. In June of 2007 I decided it was time for a career change and accepted a position with a building management company that specializes in healthcare facilities. It was a bit of a step down, but I needed the time to "de-stress". It worked and after a year working in that position the hospital which owns the buildings had a sudden opening in a level similar to that which I worked at the research center. The pay was great and this hospital is a great place to work. I can't believe how much work I get done, and how happy I can be even with this amount of stress. The atmosphere is totally different from that at the research center. I think I've found a place to homestead until retirement!
When I'm not at work I watch a lot of television, love music (especially classic rock, and light rock) and I LOVE tinkering with computers. Mike likes to tell everybody that if he wants me to do something around the house, it had better have a computer attached to it or it won't get done. He's ALMOST right. I guess it's part of my Mr. Fixit attitude. I get really bored with fixing the same old stuff at work all the time, but with computers changing at the pace they are today I'll never get bored.
