Except for the week that he was teaching, Ron let me select our overnight
accommodations. I thought it would be fun to stay away from hotels for
a change and book only Bed & Breakfast accommodations. This is where
we stayed, starting with the evening of our arrival. BLAIR VILLA I was very impressed with this Edwardian villa…. So impressed that we decided to stay here again on our last night in Scotland, which was one of the two nights that we had not made previous arrangements. The Villa is a 10-minute drive from the Airport, Paisley, and Glasgow City Centre. On our first night, we were in the "Pine Room". It was decorated with yellow walls, antique pine furnishings, sitting area, and a gorgeous European designed ceiling. They did have other guest, but sharing a bathroom was not a problem. I thought, "It doesn't get any better than this." HOWEVER, when we returned for our last night, we were in the "Rose Room". This room was even more impressive than the first. Decorated with rose colored walls, white wrought iron bed, immense sitting area, in room wash basin, and again a splendidly decorated ceiling. This is truly one of those places that you would have to see to appreciate it's charm. If I ever return to Scotland this will definitely be on my list again. Thank you Alan & Ellen Carmichael for these cozy accommodations! PRICE: $58 USD per night(B&B) |
| Castlecary Castle Doesn't everyone dream of living in a castle? Well, how about spending just one night then? We found a charming one, nestled in a rural area, near Bonnybridge, between Glasgow and Stirling. A newly restored, small 15th Century castle that is family run. The tower section, dating back to before 1480, was converted to 2 double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. There is a large Living Room (photo: Ron by the fireplace), and a stunning vaulted dining room. We enjoyed our castle accommodations, thanks to Bob & Flick Hunter & their charming little daughter. You can find their web site at Visit Scotland. Search under Bonnybridge PRICE: $190 USD per night(B&B) |

Fala Hall Farmhouse This Farmhouse is south of Edinburgh, near Pathhead. This is a 250-acre farm that grows barley and wheat for whiskey. There is a rose garden, beautiful Virginia Ivy growing on the house, and 2 large (friendly) dogs. Our host Willie & Helen Lothian who are tenant farmers, were very pleasant and so were the accommodations. PRICE: $51 USD per night(B&B) |
| BRISBANE HOUSE HOTEL At this Georgian-style hotel we had spacious rooms overlooking the sea front and the islands of Cumbrae. The sunsets were gorgeous. Our accommodations included a buffet style breakfast. Nevertheless, the staff generously fixed me a specially prepared meal. This southerner had a hard time getting used to the Scottish cuisine! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. PRICE: $150 USD per night(B&B) |

The night before Ron was scheduled to start teaching was the second night
that we had not booked accommodations in advance. We stopped at several
different hotel and couldn't find any vacancies. One place did recommend
a guest house, so with no other options we headed for it. Northview Guest House This House was located a few miles from Glasgow Airport, in the little town of Johnstone. It was just a place to lay our head for the night. We really don't know anything about the town, since we only went out for a walk when we went looking for a place to eat that night. The room was small and simple and the lady of the house was very accommodating. |
