Last book read: The Stainless Steel Rat Goes to Hell by Harry Harrison (24 August)
It is what it is, the continuation of a
fun series without pretense of literary-mindedness. It is perfect summer reading--light
and fluffy, not filling.
Last movie seen: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (9 August)
This is much better thanThe League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen (talk about damning with faint praise). Actually,
this is much more like what I would expect of lightweight summer fare--no
pretensions of grandeur, light humor and some special effects. You can immerse
yourself in this story for a couple of hours and feel refreshed after, much
like a cool swim on a summer's day. Just don't hold out any high hopes, because
the movie is well aware of its strengths and limitations and doesn't try to
overstep either.
