Part 2

Jim Jame’s (Arronax) decals are awesome. The fit and detail are amazing.

This picture shows the lower level auxiliary control area. The seats aren’t accurate, but I like them. Cannibalized from a Millennium Falcon “Cut away” they make ideal driver’s seats. I added a back to make it “J2-unique”.

These pics don’t do Jim Jame’s decals justice. They really made this kit come alive for me.

I carefully filed down the control panels, and built up the port control panel to have the extra detail.

The belly of the whale.

Cool perspective through the landing gear bay door. Again it’s controversial where the access was in the “real” J2 to the landing leg stairs, but this works!

The completed lower level. I took lots of parts from the Millennium Falcon cut away to detail the inner walls. The rest are from Revell’s Gemini kit and scratch built.

My wife thinks the red retro rockets look like honkers. She should know.

Resting ignominiously in the background is the J2’s homely stepsister, the J1. Actually my first attempt at modeling after a 30-year hiatus. It shows the state of my skills 30 years ago.

After stumbling upon www.hobbytalk.com I realized more was possible. Anyway the J1 was invaluable in figuring out what was possible in the build up for the J2. I’ll follow this path in future build-ups; first making a quick prototype then doing the whole 9 yards.

Here’s a stateroom and the head. All the shower lacks is a shower curtain!
