Solvang, California, March 2004

We visited this little Danish town nestled in Santa Barbara County, on the recommendation of several friends. There was a food and wine festival in town the weekend we were there.

Driving along the Pacific coast, we saw this island with a bridge going to it. I'm not sure what it's called, but I'm sure there's some kind of kung-fu blood sport going on out there. Driving down the highway in Buelton, California. We had to get a hotel here because Solvang is like totally the hot spot of Santa Barbara County. Only super cool people like Cristi get to stay there. We ate here the first night in town. I swear there's some food in front of me. Not just any old windmill. It's the Day's Inn windmill! Despite the wind, I don't recall seeing the windmill mill.
The Solvang heavy metal scene. Do you have a little of the captain in ya? Me. In the street. Next. This was from the top of one of the windmills.
The mean streets of Solvang And some more Our new Jeep Cherokee makes an appearance. The open range of the Ostrich and Emu farm, which also sold strawberries.
I'm getting tired of writing captions. Watch out for the pterodactyl! Hit it in the mouth with your lance! Emus pack a wallop. Don't ever feed one out of your bare hand. "Where's MY food?" says the ostrich.
More beautiful scenery. I could retire here. No lie - these things make a sound like a Harley Davidson v-twin engine. So you can pay these guys and they'll let you feed their emus and ostriches. Good thing, otherwise they'd have to pay a hired hand to feed them. Du hast ein Pepsi? I didn't know that color still existed.
