October 7, 2000 The Wiccan/Pagan Poll Final Results | ||

The fourth quarter results have been tabulated from
the poll begun by the Covenant of the Goddess (CoG) in late July,
1999.
We have received a total of 32,854 responses in the
year the poll was on the CoG web site. Of those, 1.1% were "manual"
entries (mailed-in responses). Based on our response rate, we estimate the
number of Witches and Pagans in the United States to be approximately
768,400.
The majority of Witches and Pagans-- 65% --are between the ages of 18 and 39, showing a marked change in the rise of newer seekers. This supports the supposition that Neo-Paganism is the fastest growing religious movement in the United States. | ||

The "voter" percentages are based upon responses from
U.S. citizens 18 years of age or older. Witches and Pagans demonstrate a
strong belief in the power of the individual through active participation
in the democratic process
The ratio of women to men is approximately two to one:
Witches and Pagans serve their country, with what
appears to be a higher percentage of women among the armed forces than the
national average.
