We here at SouthernMoon Farm Weimaraners believe that to be responsible breeders, you must only breed the best to the best. To us, the best doesn't necessarily mean the best in the show ring. To us, the best means conformation and temperament. Many show dogs are not bred for the easy-going temperament that families desire. Our dogs can go from the show-ring, to the field, and back home to sleep on your bed or couch. Our dogs are bred not only because they have excellent conformation and meet the AKC standard; They are bred because they have the temperament that everyone desires.
The Weimaraners' most important role is that of a family companion. Their desire for human companionship cannot be beat. Weimaraners are intensely devoted to their humans. They require constant physical contact and attention: at your feet, by your side, riding in the passenger seat, and sleeping on your bed. If this is not something that sounds good to you... please start researching other breeds. If your plans are to keep your dog in the back yard, neither you or your Weimaraner will be happy.
Partially due to their almost human like intellect, Weimaraners need a family with the willingness to invest the effort needed to teach good manners. The Weimaraner puppy is curious, imaginative and extremely energetic. We encourage all new families to crate train their puppy. Not only does the crate help in housebreaking, but the crate will eventually become the puppy's place to relax "to get away from it all".
Why should you consider a SouthernMoon Farm Weimaraner puppy?
We believe that puppies should be socialized early for their best chance at a wonderful life. Our puppies are raised in our home, in the middle of our lives. They are handled daily by small children. They are well socialized with cats and other dogs by the time they go on to their new families.
Puppies are very susceptible to diseases/illness. We believe that puppies should not, until after their second set of shots, be put outside on the ground. Our puppies only go outside after 4 weeks of age for photo sessions and even then they never set foot on the ground.
If at any time you are unable to care for your SouthernMoon Farm puppy, we will gladly take the puppy back and care for or carefully re-home the puppy/dog. We care about the futures of all of our puppies.
We prefer to keep our puppies until they are 7 weeks old. This gives the puppies time to be puppies, with their brothers and sisters, after being weaned by mom.
We are always available to anyone needing advice or assistance with their puppy. Emails are checked several times per day and phone calls are welcome.
We do ship and will do everything in our power to make the transport a safe and comfortable one for your new puppy.
If you are in need of an obedience, hunting or retrieving trainer, we can put you in the right direction.
