It is also the happiest and most liberal one, where the strongest creative and festive spirit is demonstrated. This is the party in which the most joy, and dignity is presented, and best of all, it is the party in which we all can participate. Each dance, like the popular cumbia, each costume, each person takes part of this in order to make it the best spectacle to the observer.

This festival is four days longer , is happy and amusing of the region. It takes place for four days preceding Ash Wednesday. During the carnival the city of Barranquilla's normal activities are paralysed because the city gets busy with street dances, musical and masquerade parades.
