"A Super Beetle Sun Bug. Manufacturing date 01/74. It was a Florida car, brought by the previous owner up to Vermont in the late '80s. Previous owner did a superficial restoration maybe five years ago. I bought it in July '95. It's my daily driver May through October. Hibernates through the winter under cover. I believe the engine's been rebuilt once. The odometer stopped working at 86,000-something miles, and I don't believe it's on the second time around. The number on the crankcase matches up correctly with the year. I'm running it with stock (but new) Bosch ignition parts, including the stock combination vacuum / centrifugal advance distributor, as well as the stock carb. Starts instantly, idles beautifully, sounds wonderful. Uses / loses almost no oil. What's amazing to me is how there's so little in the way it drives and feels to indicate it's twenty three years old. A great driver, no shakes. The sunroof works perfectly. Those sport wheels even still have their original pinstripes. A definite keeper. The only thing I'm missing is that darned Sun Bug shift knob - hijacked or discarded at some dark moment in the unknowable past. If anyone can find me one, drop me a line!"
