THE VOLKSWAGEN SUN BUG

VW Sun Bug

emblem

Web-Counter says you are visitor since 9/23/99.

Welcome to our page devoted to our Volkswagen Sun Bugs! The page came after discussions on the aircooled VW mailing list about creating a place devoted to our special VW's. Thanks to Glen Hadley for originally suggesting the idea. To see our Sun Bugs, just click on a name listed on the left.

You are probably asking, "Hey, just what the heck is a Sun Bug anyways??"

Well, first let's point out that just because a Bug has a sunroof, it does NOT necessarily mean it is a Sun Bug. There are other factors, too:

  1. Offered in 1974, as a "Special Edition" Beetle
  2. Available as a Standard Beetle, Super Beetle, and Convertible; the non-Convertible models have sunroofs
  3. Special Metallic Gold paint
  4. VW's pressed steel "sport" wheels
  5. Brown carpet and interior trim
  6. Black seat upholstery with yellow inserts, or brown vinyl with brown inserts
  7. Special Sun Bug shift knob
  8. Special steering wheel
  9. Wood grain paneling on the dashboard
  10. Some Sun Bugs have a special emblem on the engine lid, which did not come from the factory, but was supposed to be put on by the dealerships

If there is any incorrect information on this page, please let me know at csaari@bellsouth.net.
Also please let me know if you have a Sun Bug and would like to be added to the page.

Thanks to Rob Bareiss for the drawing at the top of the page,
and to Kevin Stigerts for the above Sun Bug emblem picture.
