My name is Judy Bennett and I am looking for information on my great-grandfather, Francis Marion BENNETT.  He married my great-grandmother,

Georgia T. Smith on 6-02-1887.  My grandfather, Francis Marion Bennett II was born in Patterson, GA on 1-11-1888.  I am trying to verify whether the

Francis M. Bennett buried in a Patterson cemetary (cemetary marker indicates a birth date of 10-18-1859 and a death date of 12-21-1888) is in fact my

great-grandfather. Does anyone know of any burial records for Patterson GA for this date?  Additionally, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can

proceed, I would greatly appreciate them.  Once I have verified whether this is my great=grandfather, I would appreciate any information on his ancestry.  Thank you for your interest and any help that you may offer.

I have many Peyton L. or Peyton Lisby Wades in my Family Tree Program, but here is one that I can't determine who his father was.  This Peyton L. was born 1885 in GA.

I found him with his mother in the 1900 Pierce Co., GA Census, but his mother was widowed.  There is no 1890 census and I could not find his mother, Susan L. Wade in the 1880 one.  Peyton married Mamie Sweat.      I'm copying and pasting the obit of one of their children, Leola Wade Smith who died in June of this year.  I feel sure that this Wade is mine but I need to know who this Peyton's dad was.  I think then I could connect them.  Thanks.  Lanelle

Leola Wade Smith, age 89, of Alma died Monday night June 30, 2008 in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Pierce County but had lived in Bacon County most of her life. Leola was daughter of the late Peyton Wade and Mamie Sweat Wade. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Smith, great granddaughter, Beth Ann Raulerson, son- in- law, Darrell Tomlinson, three brothers, Marvin, Clayton & J.D. Wade and two sisters, Luna White and Jessie Mae Carter. She was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church.Survivors include her children, Windell Smith & wife Charlotte of Mershon, Ga., Cecil Smith & wife Laura of Patterson, Ga., Emily Chancey & husband Roger of Nahunta, Ga., Marilyn Tomlinson, Wanda Wheeler & husband Johnny and Ronnie Smith of Alma, two brothers, A.C. Wade & wife Dewayne and Harold Wade & wife Martha of Alma and one sister, Arlene Good & husband Obed of Alma. Also ten grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren and one great- great- grandchild survive.Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 AM at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Yarborough officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Corinth Church Wednesday evening between the hours of 6 and 9 PM. The family will be meeting at the residence of Robert and Traci Martin.Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, Kenny Smith, Al Boatright, Jason Tyre, Derrin & Cam Wheeler and Grant Jordan. All others in attendance will be considered honorary escorts.Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

My name is Jenn Askew-Peden and I have several things I am trying to start to research – if you have any information or suggestions, please let me know and point me in the right direction.

I am looking for information on Ephraim O’Hagan who was listed on the 1900 census for Pierce County.   He was born in Ireland in March 1835 and immigrated to the United States sometime before 1868, as he had a son named Joseph who was born in Georgia in 1868 by the wife of his first marriage.   I am not sure if he was in Pierce County as early as 1870, but I would love to know if he was.   The only information I have about him is from the small amount that was told to the family by my grandmother, his daughter by a second marriage.    Ephraim O’Hagan married my great-grandmother, Eulerson S. Gibbs sometime before 1898.  Years ago someone found a marriage record under Hagan, E.O. to Eulerson S. Gibbs on February 2, 1896 in Pierce County which must have been the correct one.   Eulerson was from Michigan and I think her father’s name was Joseph Gibbs.    Later cemetery records in Lott Cemetery in Ware County show a Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Gibbs buried there near Ephraim and Mrs. E O’Hagan as well as someone named Doyle O’Hagan who may have been my grandmother’s brother.   They might have lived near a place called Offermen – does that sound familiar?   My grandmother was only a child when her parents died and never remembered much about them.   Her father’s estate and her welfare were taken over by someone I believe was an uncle by marriage on her mother’s side, Dan T. Cowart.    Family stories called him “Mighty Fine”, but I don’t know if that’s true.   He apparently ended up in Glynn County later on as I found burial records for him at Christ Church Cemetery.    There were two other people buried there with the last name Cowart who I think must have been the connection between my grandmother and the Cowart family.   The names of these two Cowart women were Lillie Blanche Cowart and Lula Gibbs Cowart.    My grandmother was supposedly named after her aunts – my grandmother was Lula Blanche O’Hagan born in September of 1898 in Pierce County.

That is all the information we have on this part of my father’s family and I would love to put the pieces together for him.  My research on his father’s family provided answers to solve the mysteries on that side of the family and he got to meet a huge extended family that he was so happy about.   Now, I would love to find the answers on his mother’s side as well.  He is almost 80 years old and has always wanted to know where his family came from.   If there is anything you can look up for me in Pierce County or if you can suggest any additional places to look, I would be very appreciative.   You are more than welcome to post the information above on your county e-mail list and see if anyone has any leads.   Thank you so much in advance for your help.
