By FOLKS HUXFORD, written for the 1959 Historical Edition of the Blackshear Times. Prior to the 1868 Constitution, each militia district had two Justices of Peace, elected at the same time for four-year terms, by popular vote. These terms began in January, 1825, and every four years thereafter. The following were the Justices of Peace in the 590th district prior the creation of Pierce county.
