Socka yarn, 56 stitches on 2.5mm ebony/rosewood dpns. After the heel, I switched to 2.75mm Swallows and increased 4 stitches for a total of 60 stitches. This allowed 3 repeats of the knots including the 2 spacer stitches. For ribbing I extended the unattached section of the knots and inserted 2 sets of knit stitches in between using the same increase method as the knots.
I combined a left-facing and a right-facing knot from Elsebeth Lavold's wonderful book. These knots adapted surprisingly well to the small scale of socks. I recommend knitting these little cables without a cable needle. It's not that hard and actually made my cable stitches cable-ier.
