The RYVES ( Rives, Reeves, and other phonetic variations-see note below) coat of arms displayed here is mounted on the Almshouse at Blandford Forum, England. It is believed to be the Coat of Arms of the branch of the Ryves (Rives, Reeves) family which is traceable back to Robert Ryves of Blandford in Dorsetshire, England. He was born c 1490.
I am indebted to Bob Reeves, a cousin who I met via the Internet, for furnishing the photo of the Ryves Coat of Arms to me and suggesting I use it on my Reeves Home Page. I am doubly indebted to him for helping me to fill in vital missing links in my family line which enabled me to trace it back to England.
(Note: Some probable and possible variations of the surname “Reeves” are as follows:
Reaves, Rives, Ryves, Reeves
Reve, Reves, Rieves, Revis, Reevis
Reever, Reevers, Reeverts, Reavers
If a name, when sounded out, pronounces close to "Reeves," it is probably a variation. It is not known which is the original spelling, though some researchers opine it is Rives, which is believed to be the spelling used in France and brought to England by Heugenot emigrants and subsequently anglicized to the spelling of Ryves.
