To the guys that served in Vietnam -  Welcome Home Brothers

I, as many of you, pushed back as best we could the short time in our life that we served in Vietnam. Then for many different reasons came the want or need to bring these times back into our lives and minds.

My search began in March 2000. I searched the internet and finally ran across ‘Photographs from Vietnam’ by Cliff Westwood. Then I worked my way through the site and opened the third set of photos ‘The Roger Surprenant Collection; Posted Aug. 23, 1999. When I opened that page up there before my eyes – My Past. After all these years there in a fuzzy, faded photo was someone who looked very familiar - my Squad Leader, Frank Salamino - and now my quest for my past began.. I had also posted a note in a guest book on the 35th Infantry site - "am I the only person from Delta Company here?" Within a day or two I received an e-mail from Phil Landis saying ‘Welcome Home Brother’ – that was a very warm feeling.

I looked in my little shoe box at the photos I had – scanned a couple and sent them to a few old friends that I had found  - and then decided why not post them on the web so anyone that might be like me, in a quest for who knows what, could see a little bit of their past – and so here we are.

I know for those that were there these photos will bring back memories - some wonderful some . . well not so wonderful. It is my hope that the times and places shown here will bring back only good memories even if it is for one that might be shown but has fallen.

I personally would like to say to the guys I served with "Thank You."

I arrived in Vietnam on August 16, 1967 after a couple of days I was sent to Pleaku for training and orientation. On August 25th I shipped out to Duc Phu (LZ Montezuma/Bronco) and finally on August 29, 1967 I joined Delta company and was assigned to the 2nd platoon. From then on these, you, were the guys who would make up my family, my protection but more than anything – My Friends. Delta company was unique in that approximately 95% of the guys were new in country. Most had come over on a ship - I and a few others, including Barrie Wendel, were assigned to the unit only a couple of weeks after Delta was formed. This being a totally new company men that were already veterans from other companys joined Delta. Most of the leaders, squad leaders etc., were guys that had been in country and in the field for a while so we would have someone who knew just what the heck was going on.

THIS RAGTAG GROUP OF GUYS MADE UP ONE HECK OF A UNIT!

I now, as always, I live in Tucker, GA – about 15 miles NE of Atlanta. Have a beautiful wife, four children and six grandchildren. I hope you enjoy the photos I have posted and would like very much any help that you might give as to guys and places in the photos.

Most of these photos were taken from Sept. '67 - Jan. '68, my camera was vaporized at Mile High.

Thanks - Phillip Buice
