Once the panels are off the rear speakers can be accessed easily. Installing these speakers is an easy task.
Unscrew the speakers from the body. (careful they are a bit heavier than you think)
Remember that these rear speakers have dual coils (twist two inputs into one input keeping plus with plus and minus with minus) (this is done before the line conversion). That is they each had two inputs. Back when you wired the HK amp you made a choice of which pair of wires you wished to use to
drive the new speakers. (only one pair of these speaker wires should be carrying a signal from the your two new amps) Cut the wires or use adapters and reconnect new speaker connecters. The extra pair of wires can be tie wrapped up so they do not flop around loose. (These wire colors did match the HK amp colors I
charted)
The hole is indeed 6x9 inches and the depth is very good.
You can see from the pictures that Mini has somewhat seal foamed up the interior cavity. I did not dynamat this area.
Carefully pull the HK speaker seal away from the old speaker and re applied it to the new speaker. Or re-seal it with RTV/gasket goop.
Connect the speaker terminals (careful for phase) and screw new speaker into Mini body.
Before replacing panels be sure to turn on the system paying special attention to right/left stuff
