THROUGH-THE-LINES COVERS

Through-the-lines cover carried outside the mails. Envelope addressed to
Mrs. Selina Crump, Brandon, Miss. Enclosed letter dated "March 26 /64."
Manuscript notations indicate that the letter was examined and approved at
Headquarters Millitary Post Vicksburg on March 26, 1864, by order of
Brig. Gen. J. McArthur, Commanding Post, John W. Gugg, Lt. & A.D.C.
Manuscript docketing shows that the cover was received April 4th
and answered April 13th.
Thru-the-lines cover carried outside the mails from Vicksburg to Jackson
and then mailed at "Jackson Miss/June 1 /64"using a 10¢ blue engraved,
Type I, as postage. Envelope addressed to Mrs. Selina Crump, Brandon,
Miss. Enclosed letter headed "May 12th /64 Vicksburg."Manuscript
notations are "Care of/Messrs Tappan & Manlove" and "Mrs Moore
12th May/received May 29th." On reverse in manuscript is written
"E&Approved/May 18"1864/Geo/C. McRee/Maj. & P M."

Mrs. Selina M. Crump, Vicksburg, Miss. Enclosed letter is headed "Brandon
July 23rd, 1864," and was from Mollie a daughter of Mrs. Crump. Docketed
in manuscript "Politeness/of/Capt C. A. Manlove."
