EVERYBODY
OUGHT TO GO TO SUNDAY SCHOOL!
Last
month I wrote that Sunday School as we know it started in the
1890’s. Did
you know that the concept of Sunday School is found in the laws
given to Moses by God?
In Deuteronomy, Moses shares the laws of God with the
Israelites in four major assemblies.
During the second address to the people, Moses lists the
Ten Commandments which are recorded in Chapter 5.
In the very next chapter (v.4-7) Moses tells them: Listen…,
the Lord our God is the only true God!
So love the Lord our God with all your heart, soul and
strength. Memorize
His laws and tell them to your children over and over again.
Talk
about them all the time, whether you’re at home or walking along
the road or going to bed at night or getting up in the morning.
(CEV)
Do
you think God thought it important for us to share our knowledge
of Him and His word to the next Generation?
He leaves no doubt about it.
This is the overriding message Dr. Woody Stevens shared
with us at District Assembly.
We don’t have a choice if we want to obey God.
Before the laws of God were written down, they were shared
by mouth from one generation to the next.
Genesis records that Adam lived long enough to tell about
his face to face walk with God to eight generations.
Noah could have heard it directly from Seth, Adam’s son.
We don’t have an option as to whether we will have a
strong Sunday School, Bible studies, or Continuing Lay Training in
our church.
We have a responsibility.
In
the coming weeks, we will be announcing various ministries and
other opportunities of which each of you might be a part as we
seek to share Christ with others.
The best of SDMI is not behind us, it hasn‘t even been
thought of yet!
Do
You Want To Obey Jesus?
You may have asked yourself,
“Why should I be a Sunday School teacher or worker?”
In Mark 16:15 Jesus said “…Go
into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone,
everywhere.”
You might say, “But I’m not a preacher!”
Jesus was talking not only to his disciples but to each
person who calls himself or herself a follower of Christ.
This is not an option but a command.
To help you fulfill Jesus’ command, we will have two
classes for new workers on Sunday, August 12th and
August 19th at 9 a.m. in room B14.
This class is for everyone 17 years of age and older.
As we expand our SDMI Program we will need more workers.
Come and be a part of this and see how God can use you to
“Preach the Good News” right here at Old Hickory Church of the
Nazarene.
