CHURCH
APPRECIATION DINNER
One
of the best ways to express love and friendship is to share a meal
with someone. Jesus did that quite often. Many times he shared meals
with the twelve Disciples. On one occasion, Jesus sat down to share
a meal with only two - those two dejected disciples on that first
Easter Sunday afternoon. Then, there were times that the meal was
enjoyed by as many as five thousand.
One
of the warmest and most touching verses in the entire Bible is
Revelation 3:20. There, Jesus says, “Look! Here I stand at the
door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will
come in, and we will share a meal as friends.” There is something
very “Christian” about sharing a meal.
Debra
and I would like to invite you to join us for a meal on Sunday
night, August 12, at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. The meal
will be catered and is absolutely free. It is just our way of saying
that we love and appreciate all of our church family here at Old
Hickory.
Everyone
is invited, but because the meal will be catered, we must know in
advance how many people plan to attend. Please sign up in the foyer
or use the perforated portion of your Sunday worship folder and let
us know how many from your family will be joining us for this
appreciation dinner. You can help us by being sure that you sign up
no later than Sunday, August 5.
We
look forward to having each of you as our guest for this special
time of fellowship.

SUNDAY
NIGHT SURVEY
On
August 12, we will have
our final Kairos service of the summer. Thanks to Pastor Randy for
planning and putting together these special services and times of
fellowship.
On
Wednesday, August 8 our CLT will discuss our Sunday night services.
We will review the Kairos services and consider other options for
our Sunday night format. That is where we need your input.
What
would you like to see happen on Sunday nights at Old Hickory? Below
are some of the possibilities that will be discussed by the CLT.
A.
Continue
having one celebration service per month, as we have done for the
summer.
B.
Continue having one celebration service per month AND
one mission service per month in the FLC. (Casual atmosphere with
light refreshments during the mission meeting.)
C.
Continue having one celebration service per month AND
one mission service per month AND
have one Sunday night per month designated as a time for Sunday
School classes to have fellowships, either at the church or in
someone’s home.
D.
**On the Sunday nights when no service would take place at the
church building, everyone would be encouraged to spend time with
family and to invite unsaved friends into their homes for
fellowship.
E.
Have a mission service in the FLC once per month, and a
discipleship class taught by Pastor Bledsoe on the remaining Sunday
nights. This would be strictly teaching and dialogue, with no
singing or special music. The class would take place in either the
FLC or in the sanctuary.
Please
let us know your opinion. You may have other suggestions you would
like to share. Feel free to talk with any CLT member, e-mail the
church office, talk with Pastor John or Pastor Randy, or write out
your opinion and/or suggestions and place them in Ann Robbins’
mail box in the office wing of the FLC. You do not have to sign your
name to these if you would rather not.
What
is important is that we hear from you. Your input is important to us
and would be greatly appreciated.
