Old meets new. This is a shot of the new (near) and
the old (far) TB's. This is also after I drilled a bunch of holes
in the mating areas of the new TB for the rosette welds. After
I tried to install it with the inner rocker panel, I wound up
taking the top off it (drilled out the fresh factory welds) to
get it all to mate up in the car w/out having to bent/stress anything.
An extra 1/2 hour is well worth not messing up alignment.
Here is a shot of the installed and ground torque box.
I primed and painted the inside of both the TB and the rocker
panel prior to installation. There are some access holes but only
so much access to be painted so get it now and touch up spray
later what may have burned off from welding rather than have to
do this again. I used a brush on Rustoleum for the outer rocker/inner
rocker where I didn't think I could reach later. Rattle can primer/paint
for the hard to reach places. Note: for those pesky oil based
paints/primers, you can store the wet brushes inside plastic wrap/bags
in the freezer for extended periods of time between use (I still
have a few in there from last month). Just thaw them out for 1/2
hour before using again, they will stay for about a month before
drying out. REMEMBER TO TELL YOUR WIFE WHAT THEY ARE! Imagine
her surprise as she grabs an oil based primer brush looking for
burgers.
Another shot of above.
Still a lot of work to be done. fast approaching the passenger
side though! Install the floor pan extension (toe pan) before
the floor pan. The direction of travel will help keep the water
out of the possible crevices/cracks
