Nebo ASP Program

Greetings!

The Nebo ASP program and Department of Music are pleased to offer String Orchestra as an ASP program.  This group is open to any Nebo student who is in ASP and owns or rents a violin, viola, or cello.   The ASP String Orchestra will meet Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:00.  

The ASP String Orchestra will be broken into the following groups:

• Beginning Strings:  This group is for students in 3rd, 4th, or 5th Grade who are new to playing strings.  This group is also for the 2nd Grade students who were in ASP Strings during the 2005-2006 School year.  This group will meet from 2:15 to 3:00 on Thursdays.

• Intermediate Strings:  This group is for 3rd and 4th Grade students who have had at least one year of string lessons.  This group will meet from 3:00 to 4:45 on Thursdays.

• Advanced Strings:  This group is for 4th and 5th Grade students who have had at least one year of string lessons.  This group will meet from 4:00 to 5:00 on Thursdays.

Mr. Michaud will assign students to groups based on an evaluation of the student's skills at the beginning of the year. 

Students in ASP String Orchestra will learn how to play a stringed instrument (violin, viola, or cello).  Students will work on proper technique, producing a good tone, and reading music.  

Students must provide the following  for the Nebo ASP String Orchestra. 

• Violin with Bow and Case

• Method Book:  Essential Elements 2000 for Strings

• Music stand

• Shoulder rest or large sponge and rubber bands.

 Parents obtain what they need at any local music store.  The following music stores rent instruments:

Because the ASP String Orchestra is part of Nebo ASP, students must stay in ASP on the days they have ASP String Orchestra.  Parents must inform homeroom teachers on Wednesdays that students need to go to ASP.  Parents must also follow Nebo ASP procedures and pick up students in the front lobby of Nebo.  ASP currently charges $6.00 per day.  Nebo ASP policies for further information on cost.

Students wanting to be in ASP String Orchestra must fill out and return this form by Wednesday, August 31st.  The first day of ASP Strings will be Thursday, September 1st.

_____________________________________(Student Name) has my permission to participate in ASP String Orchestra.  I understand that I must register my child for ASP and pay necessary ASP fees for this program.  I also understand I must inform my child’s homeroom teacher that my child will stay in ASP on the days of ASP String Orchestra.  I also understand that I must provide a stringed instrument for my child to use during this program.  Parent signature indicates consent for above child to be photographed and/or videotaped while in rehearsals or broadcasts and authorizes use of these pictures without charge for publicity purposes related to the promotion of the Nebo Elementary School.  I also release Nebo Elementary School from all claims of any interest of any kind of image on behalf of both the undersigned and the child named above.
