Xylo's Playhouse

Xylo, Xylo, what'cha doing Xylo?  Always bouncing to and fro;  little glider named Xylo.      Xylo, Xylo, Ever gliding high & low;  Cutest fella that I know, little glider named Xylo.

Meet Xylo, my first pet Sugar Glider.  "What's a Sugar Glider?"  Well, a Sugar Glider is a marsupial originally from around Australia and the forests of New Guinea.  They are nocturnal, tree dwelling animals.  Sugar Gliders are really a type of possum, but they are very similar to flying squirrels.  They are called Sugar Gliders because they have a membrane that drapes from their wrists to their ankles which allows them to glide through the air when they leap from tree to tree. In the wild, they eat nectar and the sweet sap from trees as well as berries, fruits, nuts and seeds.  They also need protein which they normally get from bird eggs, worms, or insects.

Cowabunga!!!        "Oooh these pushups will build up my little glider muscles..."          "Giddy - Up!" Xylo riding on Presh's back

I created these pages to show my enthusiasm for my pets,  and to educate the public about Sugar Gliders.  These intelligent, loveable, little animals have great personalities and will surprise and delight you with their playful antics.  It does take some time to bond, but once you've earned that trust, the two of you can build a very rewarding relationship.  Indeed, they are adorable, but please don't think of getting one unless you are willing to devote LOTS of time and energy into being a good parent.  Much like having a child, it's a big responsibility.  Gliders require fresh fruits & vegetables every night and most importantly, they need lots of love and attention.  Gliders are social animals.  They need a great deal of interaction and should be kept in pairs or groups if possible.
