Meal Time

"Feed da baby!"

It's IMPORTANT to offer a combination of hard and soft foods to help your glider maintain healthy teeth and gums in addition to providing stimulus.  (They need hard foods and gnaw toys to help keep their teeth filed down, otherwise they can grow too long and cause serious problems.)  Meal time is one of the things your glider looks forward to, so it should be as rewarding as possible.  Meals should be visually pleasing as well as tasty.  Varying textures, colors, and tastes can help to satisfy your pet and insure it's health and safety.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables!

Sugar Gliders need a balanced diet of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some protein and plenty of Calcium.  It is very important for these animals to get enough Calcium.  If they don't get proper nutrition, they will likely develop brittle bones, weak muscles and may become paralyzed or even die.  I have read about other complications also, such as feeding too much fat which can cause them to have fatty deposits in their eyes and feeding too much of the same food which can cause them to become constipated or have diarrhea.

  • Gliders need lots of fresh water at all times.  A glider can dehydrate and thirst to death in a short time if not provided with an adequate water supply.
  • Never feed your Glider candy, chocolate or raw sugar.
  • I have been experimenting with different foods to find out what my gliders like to eat.  I hope to introduce them to many different types of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc.
