"A few days ago I took a stroll all
alone through the Roper Grave yard, fully absorbed in the memory of the
dead who sleep in that hollowed ground. Well do I
remember on that sad Sunday morning, Christmas day, 1864, when my
father bid adieu to this world and went forth to that eternal world, to
which we are all hastening. the mantle of death separates us from
our friends but they are not forgotten.
Memory alone keep a pace,
With the flight of years as they go rolling by,
Thought we miss our friends face to face
Yet on memory's table they will never die."
