Information
wanted by the Oklahoma Historical Society of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Dear
Sir: My great-grand-father, Joshua
Dilling (or Dillon) died at the home of his son Henry in Marin
District, SC
about the year 1884; age 105 years, weighed 300 pounds, died suddenly
while at
his meal. Think
he was a cooper, and perhaps
did some preaching.
Daniel
Dilling (or Dillon) son of Joshua, was my grandfather.
He was married in Marion District, March 18,
1818 to Esther Sweeney. He
was also a
cooper, ordained minister of the M.E. Church.
To
complete genealogy now in preparation, I am anxious to get in
correspondence
with some one who may be able to throw light on the South Carolina end
of the
family. Special,
however, to verify name
of great-great grandfather Joshua’s father and brothers, who , I
believed remained
in England,
The
town of Dillon in your county may have come from the family name. Old official or church records may give some
information.
signed: Respectfully, W. P. Campbell
