night by taking an overdose of morphine.

last Sunday at the home of Rev. Hugh Harrelson, in Carmichael township.
Both parties from Robeson county. Rev. Mr.
Harrleson's home is near the State line and nearly every Sunday he is
called upon to perform the marriage ceremony several times
over. He has very appropriately named his section the Gretna
Green
of South Carolina.

News was received here this morning that the
death of Mrs. McKeithan Rogers which occurred at the home of her
father-in-law , Mr. L. B. Rogers near
Latta. Just a year ago Mrs. Rogers, who was a Miss Foster, of
Union was married to Mr. McKeithan Rogers, one of the most
prominent young men of the county. She was a young woman of many
fine traits of character and was loved and admired by a large circle of
friends. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the
stricken husband.

Mrs. Neil McEachern died at her home at
McColl on Tuesday, 21, inst., and was buried yesterday afternoon at the
McDuffie Graveyard. The funeral was conducted by her pastor,
Rev.
Mr. Dickson, assisted by Rev. J. A. Wilson. She leaves her
husband and four daughters.

Mrs. Georgia A. Sansbury, wife of Mr.
Chas. A. Sansbury who was employed on the Herald for several months
during the year 1902, died at the home of her parents in Florence last
Thursday. She had been suffering from a complication of diseases
for several months. Mrs. W. P. Surles, a
friend of the
deceased, attended the funeral services at Florence Friday.

C. E. Richardson and
Miss Nellie Sprunt left Tuesday for Selma to attend the marriage of Mr.
Richardson's sister, Miss Rosa, to Dr. Pope of Edisto Island, S.C.,
which happy event
occurred
yesterday. Miss Richardson has visited in Dillon a number of
times and is very pleasantly remembered here by a large
circle of friends and acquaintances.

A
Daring Robbery - About one
mile below Latta Saturday night, P. S. Campbell was knocked
unconscious by highwaymen and robbed
of $60. in cash. Mr. Campbell is a
merchant at
Latta and lives out about three miles from town on the public road to
Marion. Mr. Campbell is a brother of Mr. W. J. B. Campbell who
made the race
for the coroner's office last summer.

after an illness of several days.

Marion, May 2, Special: Former Senator
Thomas C. Moody who has been in ill health for several months was
taken suddenly worse today and is now supposed to be
dying. Senator Moody
has for many years been one the leading men of Marion. He is the
brother-in-law of
Congressman Ellerbe, Mayor Miles and of the late
Governor Ellerbe. He is a widower and childless.

Charles Sawyer was instantly killed by lightning
Friday
afternoon about 3 o'clock in his field, near Brownsville. He was
a very industrious young farmer, and had lived in that
section only a few years. He came to Brownsville from Baker, a
few miles south of Marion. He leaves a wife and seven
children.
His mule was also killed with him.

A Negro named Nelson Bethea was supposed to
have
been struck by a train and hurled for Little Pee Dee trestle some time
last Saturday night. He was last seen in the vicinity
of the trestle late Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning his hat and
a guitar which he carried around with him were found in the river. He
is still
missing.

James
Cole, a young farmer near Florence, shot and killed
Alonzo Murphy, colored, Sunday night. Murphy wad been beating his
wife and when Mr. Cole remonstrated
with him, he fired at Mr. Cole with a shotgun. Mr. Cole then
pulled his pistol and shot the Negro twice killing him
instantly. Mr. Cole is a brother
of Capt. Bill Cole who is well known here.

The many friends of Mr. L. F. Edwards, who lives
in the Pleasant Hill section, will learn with sorrow that he has
suffered a stroke of paralysis. Without any warning, the stroke
came last Saturday
rendering him speechless and helpless. Mr. Edwards has a large
family, and is well know throughout the county. His condition is

We are sorry to report the death of little Miriam, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. P. P. Bethea which occurred at Kngstree, SC. She was buried at
Piney Grove Cemetery Wednesday morning.

By an unaccountable error the name of a lady
living in the upper section of the county, was placed in the jury box,
and , as chance would have it, her name was drawn to serve at this term
of court. As only initials were used, the juy comissioners did
not descover the error, and her name was handed with the others, to the
sheriff, but of course, when the deputry discover the mistake, she was
not summoned. - Star

News and Courier of Tuesday contained the following: "Today,
while Dr. L. M. Roper was marrying Miss Birdie Lancaster, daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. S. T.D. Lancaster, to W. F. Westbrook of Marion County,
Mrs. Lancaster, mother of the bride, was stricken with paralysis and
died in a few minutes. Dr. Lancaster's home is at Pauline, near
Glenn Springs." Miss Lancaster taught music in the graded school
for several years and is quiet well-known to many persons in t his
section. Mr. Westbrook was formerly president of the
Browne-Westbrook Hardware Co. and had many friends hereabouts

Dolph the 8 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C.
Braddy while playing near the cooking stove last Friday pulled a dipper
of boiling water over his shoulders and neck. The little
fellow was so
badly burned that he suffered intense agony until a physician arrived
and dressed his burns.

Dr. L. F. Johnson of Wallace, N.C., but
lately of Fayetteville, where he was chief surgeon at the Highsmith
Sanitarium, has formed a co-partnership with Dr. C. R. Tabor for
the practice of medicine. Dr. Johnson & Tabor's office will
be over the Richbourg building.

A. C. Ward died very suddenly Tuesday night at her home near the Dillon
Cotton Mill. Mrs. Ward had been troubled with heart failure and
her death is attributed to that cause. She leaves a husband and a
very young baby.

Mrs.
Kate C. Carmichael, wife of David Carmichael, died last Friday and was
buried at Peedee church Sunday. Mrs. Carmichael had been a
sufferer from an incurable malady for sometime which she bore with
great Christian fortitude. She was about 65 years of age, and
besides many relatives and friends, she leaves an aged husband to mourn
her death.

S. L. Page is a useful man in any sphere which fate or chance places
him He knows how to impart happiness to those who thirst for
connubial bliss as well as dish justice to the evil doers of Buck
Swamp. Last Wednesday night, the 17th ultimo, he joined in holy wedlock
Miss Swawnee Miller and Mr. Jno. Jackson and sent them on their way
rejoicing.

the Robesonian - The sudden death of Mrs. J. W. Edens, which occurred
about nine o'clock Tuesday eveing was a shock tothe town. Mrs.
Edens leaves a husband and two small children, one of them just one
week old.

E. P. Smith, proprietor of the Florence Steam Laundry, died at Florence
Sunday afternoon. Mr. Smith was a cripple, but a man of
marvelous energy and personally superintended the work of his large
laundry. He made frequent trips to Dillon in the interest of his
business and knew many people here who will regret to learn of his
death.

Raymond Berry arrested in Tampa Florida living under the name of R. W.
McIntyre, the maiden name of his wife, for forging trustees names to
teachers pay certificates while Superintendent of Education in Marion.

At
Omohundo Bros. large saw mill near Sellers last Thursday, Leslie Haden,
a young man about 22 years of age met a horrible death. Young
Haden with some other workmen was unloading a heavy piece of timber
from a wagon when the log was thrown violently to the ground, catching
the young man's head between another piece of timber and crushing the
life out of him instantly. Haden's head was terribly
mangled. The body was taken to his home in Virginia last Friday
night, being accompanied by Mr. Oscar Omohundro, one of the proprietors
of the mill.

L. J.
Hinkey, the young man who was released from the State penitentiary a
few week ago where he had been confined 18 moths for robbing the Bank
at Latta, a crime which it was discovered latter he was not guilty of
died at the Presbyterian hospital in Charlotte last from a disease
which he contracted in prison. It was upon after discovered
evidence that Young HInkey's innocence was established, and a few weeks
ago he was released from prison.
