The Latta Observer
Latta, South Carolina
The Latta Observer was established in December 1910 by B. H. Atkinson.
Discontinued in 1922.
Reestablished in 1938 after a 17 year lapse with Andrew C. Ashton
and Hal Watson. Linda Watson Rowell, daughter of Hal Watson
took over in the 1960s. The doors were closed in 1982.
The only remaining copies are housed at the Latta Library. This
project is a work in progress to record the marriages and
deaths from those
remaining issues. It will be slow progress as I am taking time to
transcribe the obituaries as I come to them. In some issues (1969
for one) there is a wonderful collection of items from the African
American Community in a column "Letters From Home" done by Magdelene
Moore. I am transcribing the obituaries from her column.
