About Freeware and a Thank You to Programmers
I have been a big fan of freeware for a long time. The days of "really free" on the internet are not gone. There continues to be a wealth of free programs just waiting to be downloaded and put to good use. Just like software you pay for, quality ranges from excellent to terrible.
Thanks to the generosity of programmers who dedicate their time and training to the creation of these free programs, the sharing spirit of the internet continues to live and breathe. I would like to extend a hearty thanks to those programmers for the many free programs they have donated to the internet community.
What To Expect on This Site
There are many web sites devoted to freeware. These sites are often carefully categorized and thoroughly cover a huge range of programs. I think these sites are great and wish them continued success. Without them, my collection of freeware would be quite limited.
What I decided to do, however, is tell you about programs that I have personally used. Therefore, you will not find a massive indexing of every possible program category but only those programs that I think are really good. I hope that you find them useful.
You can expect the programs I present here to be free of the following:
- Spyware
- Adware
- Nagware
(unless free registration removes the nag)
- Shareware (unless it is freely shared)
- Demos (Don't you hate downloading "freeware" only to find out the program is a demo?)

• IrfanView: Image viewer/editor, file conversion utility - multimedia player. In my opinion, the best freeware image viewer and format
converter available.
Developed by Irfan Skiljan of Jajce, Bosnia, revisions of this program continue. IrfanView supports Adobe 8BF filters for special effects and plays a variety of video formats. A thorough Help file is included. Click here for my

• Ashampoo Media Player+ - The standard version Ashampoo Media Player+ includes support for over twenty major media file formats, which can be played on any Windows computer without additional codecs. In addition to this it can play many, many more sub-formats in combination with additional freely-available codecs such as DivX.
Download Managers
• Fresh Download -
My favorite and most highly recommended download manager. Fresh Download has a pleasant, user-friendly interface, and allows you to use any .bmp image as a background.
A thorough help section is included. However, you probably won't need it often because if you have ever used a download manager, you will find Fresh Download's interface to be highly intuitive.
Fresh Download is also highly configurable. FreshDevices offers an excellent suite of freeware utilities that are all top quality.

• IrfanView: Play multimedia files in a variety of formats.
Word Processors, Text Editors,
Text Conversion Utilities
• Crypt Edit - Powerful word processor featuring spell check, encryption and email support.
• EditPad Lite - If you are looking for a replacement for Windows Notepad, EditPad Lite is it. No limit on file size.
• PureText - Have you ever copied some text from a web page, a word document, help, etc., and wanted to paste it as simple text into another application without getting all the formatting from the original source? PureText makes this simple. Just copy/cut whatever you want to the clipboard, click on the PureText tray icon, and then paste to any application.
