Rocking E34 Seat Possible Fix

(instructions & pictures provided by Winfred @ E34 forums

NOTE: If you have memory seats things change; for powering up the seat you have to do it one motor at a time.

E34's had 2 types of designs. If your seat looks like this, then you do not have a problem.

Here is the problem seat:

I just loosened this 10mm nut and pryed the back of the motor up and killed about 80% of the rock:

This worked on our 95 530 but if you need to tweek it more you can with this 10mm nut:

The real problem is excessive play between the gears, sometimes the nuts are even loose (ahhhhh). If you need to remove the seat it takes a E14 inverved torx or a 11mm 6 point socket, the easy way to remove the seat belt from the seat, fully raise the seat to get to the bolt here:

Then pull it out. While it's up move it forward and remove the two rear E14/11mm 6 point seat bolts, when that is done fully lower the seat and remove the headrest, hit it with your fist toward the roof and it will pop out, no bolts on the front of the seat just weird hooks you can just see one in this shot:

Tilt the seat forward and you will need to disconnect a cable from the seat it makes the seat belt move up and down on the b-piller as the seat moves you can see it directly below the screwdriver tip, i usually don't reconnect it but it's up to you.

If you want to power up the seat out of the car or turn it in to a office chair, connect 12 volts and a ground to the two wires on the right , the left one with red stripes is the hot, and just use the switches.

The two on the left of the lower plug, the upper is my adapter that I cut out of a car.

It's in this shot:
