| MAT1153 - There is virtually no matrix left on this piece. The base is actually a "pancake" - the fossilized disk that separates vertebra bones in a whale's spine. In the center is a 3.465", Neotherium mirum (prehistoric Sea Lion) tooth. Above it is a section of porpoise vertebra and resting on the Sea Lion tooth is a nice rock. |

The black mottling on the tip is due to manganese impurities which is characteristic of the matrix in many Sharktooth Hill fossils. Outstanding serrations, tip and enamel. The left root lobe was damaged in the fossilization process. |
