Add to your worldwide collection! These very unusual Carcharocles megalodon teeth are rarely seen in US collections because they are very difficult to harvest and expensive to import. They are found in only one locality on earth at a depth of almost 1/5th of a mile in a 100 yard by 100 yard area of the vast South Pacific Ocean. Some of these teeth have the remains of sea creatures embedded on the root.
The unique orange color of the teeth is due to polymetallic natural compounds in the water and sediment in which these teeth lay for millions of years. These compounds were chiefly ferrous oxalate, nickel chromate and manganese sulfate.
Unlike our North and South Carolina teeth which fossilized in phosphate, these teeth have a silicate (quartz) interior - [SiO2-NH2O].
