Bubble Tube
I built the first tube 12 years ago. It had three tubes and could show patterns across the tubes:)
After that it sat in storage for a decade. This is the last prototype.
This is actually just one tube and mirrors but it is capable of producing more than 16.7 million colors
from either end plus additional white strobes. The bubble size is variable 256 levels and can be controlled.
There is only one moving part, the air pump, and it is quite reliable.
The bubble pump is duty cycle controlled to actually give diffrent bubble sizes.
Python has served as an excellent way to test patterns and ideas.
I was able to test and prototype the basic design rapidly.
This is just a test of a random pattern.
I was experimenting with threads and random control bits.
Currently I am learning to program MPASM so I can get fit all in a $3.00 chip!

If you do not have a complete understanding of electricity, do not try any of this! Stupidity can KILL, electricity doesn't care if you are a newbie, IT CAN KILL YOU! Try always to work one handed, helps to prevent a path thru the heart. Always cut off the power when making connections and wiring devices. Use isolation between diffrent voltages, use a relay for power, and/or an opti-isolator for control signals. Always use proper grounding techniques , especially when you are connecting circuitry to your computer , nobody wants a dead box and nobody wants to put you in one either!
