The University of North Florida has for some time been on Delta Gamma's approved list for expansion, voted on by Convention, should the opportunity arise. Early in 1999 Delta Gamma was among the National Panhellenic Conference groups invited to make a presentation on the campus. Only Alpha Chi Omega and Zeta Tau Alpha had been organized there and comprised the local panhellenic. Three other groups accepted UNF's invitation to present: Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Zeta and Kappa Delta, all scheduled through March, 1999.
A local group existed on the campus, calling themselves the "SIGs" which stood for Sorority Interest Group and indicated an interest in affiliating with a National Panhellenic Conference sorority. Vicki Nixon, Delta Gamma's Vice-President: Development, and Tracey Williams, Executive Offices Expansion Coordinator, came to Jacksonville to meet with the Panhellenic, the SIG's, local Delta Gamma members and members of the UNF administration. This was March 9-11. The last presentation (Delta Zeta) did not take place until March 28, and so it was April 1 that Delta Gamma received word that it would be the chosen NPC group.
Collegiate Development Consultant Alice Stachowiak was dispatched to UNF to spend time with the SIG's prior to pledging on April 21 when Vicki and Tracey returned. Twenty-two alumnae from the Jacksonville chapter and the Ponte Vedra/Beaches chapter were present to take part in the ceremony which pledged 23 new members. The details of a Fraternity Recruitment, following local recruitment, were worked out, and after consulting the Florida football schedule, November 13 was chosen as the installation date. The colony received the attention of a Council Appointed Coordinator (Susan Abraham of Maitland) and CDC Andrea Tazioli spent the fall term with the new chapter. Her monthly visits continue through the 1999-2000 school year with special assistance for Recruitment and Bid Day in January, 2000. Aunt Hannahs from the two local alumnae chapters gave special attention to individual members of the colony during 1999.
