March 02, 1999
Dear Brothers,
Finally, after many problems, the second year of the IUEC Retirees Club of South Florida is getting off the ground. I must apologize for the delay in communications but I arrived back in Florida, with full intention, of having our first get together in November. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was delayed. At any rate, we now have a full schedule of events, of which you can participate in some or all of them.
First out of the box is a Fishing Trip, scheduled for March 16, 1999. The bo9at, Sea Leggs II, will leave at 1:30 PM out of Hollywood, Florida, on the East Coast. You can bring your own food, or you can purchase it on the boat, The boat will return at 6:00 PM. The price is $25 which includes Beer and Soda. I have to have an RSVP by March 10th in order to reserve space on the boat. You can call me at 954 426-2116 or email me at fdolansr@aol.com. The trip is not limited to Elevator Constructors, so pleas feel free to invite your family or friends.
Brother George Chamberlin (Local #1) Construction) is now checking into having a Golf Tournament and Luncheon during the middle of April. Hopefully, we will have the tournament at the Hollywood Country Club and the luncheon will follow. For those of you who do no golf, please try to attend the luncheon as I would like to have an election of Officers for the Retirees Club. I don't mind doing the work, but I would like to have some input from other brothers on what type of outings to have and how often to have meetings, etc. I will send out another letter after the Fishing trip to let you know the price, time and date of the Tournament/Luncheon and directions to the Golf Course.
Further on down the road, I will be setting up a Night at the Races at the Pompano Beach Race Track. Again, more information will be forthcoming after the fishing trip. Looking into the next millennium, Brother Joe Romano, formally of Local #1 and retired Brother of Local #71, is a travel agent in South Florida. I have asked Joe to get some information for me concerning a Cruise to the Panama Canal, out of Fort Lauderdale. Joe explained that we have to make our reservations at least a year in advance to get good accommodations. Joe also explained that the more people we book, the cheaper the price, as the Cruise Lines give out discounts, in proportion to the size of the Group booking. Again, the Cruise would not be limited to Members so you can ask Family and friends to come alone. Keep that in the back of your head, and we will discuss it further at the April meeting.
That's it for now Brothers, Please call, email or write me and let me know how many people you will be bringing on the fishing trip.
Fraternally
