CHRIS
PIECUCH
Chris Piecuch is currently
in his thirteenth year as director of bands at Overton High School
for the Creative and Performing Arts in Memphis. He has taught
bands in Texas and Mississippi before coming to the Memphis City
Schools' Optional Performing Arts magnet school.
A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Piecuch began his musical studies at a very early age with his father, Martin Piecuch, a former 'President's Own' Marine Band member and presently the permanent guest conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.
Under Mr. Piecuch's direction,
the Overton Bands have experienced a variety of successes including
several national, and regional championships, and invitations
to perform at the 1994 and 2001 Tennessee Music Educators Association
Clinics in Nashville, the 49th Annual Mid-West International Band
and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, and the 1999 Music Educators
National Conference. The Overton Band has also received the Tennessee
Sweepstakes Award for the past 12 years. The Overton Band has
also been featured on stage with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra
at Memphis In May's Sunset Symphony.
Mr. Piecuch is active as
a clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States, and
is currently serving as President of the Tennessee Bandmasters
Association. In 2002, he served as guest conductor of the Memphis
Youth Symphony on their European Tour.
Aside from his responsibilities
at Overton, Mr. Piecuch is very active as a professional bassoonist
and woodwind doubler throughout the Memphis and Mid-South areas.
He has been a member of the Tupelo Symphony for the past 13 years,
and in 1997 he won the contrabassoon position with the Memphis
Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Piecuch currently resides
in Memphis with his wife, Katy and their daughters, Hannah and Elise.
