West End Brewery, Utica, N.Y.

Louis (or possibly Anthony) Laurer was brewmaster of the West End
Brewery. He was also brewmaster at the Joseph Laurer Brewery at one time.
Dates are unkown, but would have to be pre-prohibition

[ 3 West End pix]

The green bottle is 6 1/2 oz . Date is unknown. Raised print in outer circle reads:
Utica - Club - Brand, The West End BR'G, CO. In the inner circle there is
a picture of a bell boy carrying a tray, and the words Trade Mark
Underneath the circle are the words: UTICA. N.Y., REGISTERED,
CONTENTS 6 1/2 FlL.OZS.

The brown bottle is 12 1/2 oz. Date is unknown but it is most likely pre-prohibition.
In large raised script the words West End with block letters below which read:
BRG. Co.. At the bottom: CONTENTS 12 1/2 FLUID OZ, REGISTERED.

If anyone has a better idea of the dates, we would appreciate hearing from them.

[Utica Tray]

According to John Wysocarski of Rochester, NY who is a very knowledgeable "advanced collector", this beer tray was issued by the brewery in the 1980's. It is a take off from a pre-pro art design used in the early 1900's. The tray is only 10 3/4 inches in diameter while older trays were predominately either 12 or 13" in diameter. I agree and would like to add it is made of relatively light metal.

Inside the gray circle it reads:
"THE WEST END BREWING COMPANY"
"UTICA, NEW YORK". The same is written on the
barrel in the picture. On the streamer, above the flag
"HIGH GRADE BEERS ONLY" is printed.
