History

1852: Philip Will and Henry Bartholomay become partners in the brewing concern, Will & Bartholomay

1857: Henry Bartholomay becomes sole proprietor of the business

1874: Bartholomay Brewing Company started May 1

1889: Name change to Bartholomay Brewery Company. Three breweries were bought by an English investment
syndicate for $3.5 million, including the Genesee Brewing Company, the Rochester Brewing Company,
and the Bartholomay Brewing Company. In addition, the E.B. Parsons Malting Company and the
S.N. Oothout & Son Malting Company are picked up in the deal. The name "Bartholomay" is kept.
At the time of the purchase, the brands of beer produced by Bartholomay included Bartholomay Lager Beer,
Bartholomay Extra Pale Bohemian and Bartholomay Extra Dark Bavarian. After the sale of the Bartholomay Brewery,
advertising often linked the brewery to the others involved in the takeover. For example, "Rienzi" and "Premier"
are names of labels that came from the premerger Rochester Brewing Company. Likewise, "Tam O Shanter," with a logo of
the side view of the head of a Scotsman wearing a tam, was also linked to the Bartholomay Brewery post-1890 and
presumably came from either the Rochester or Genesee breweries.

1919: The name of the brewery is changed to Bartholomay Company, incorporated. The product line is limited to beer, ice cream and ice.

1925: Name changed to Bartholomay Dairy Company

1952: Bartholomay Dairy was still located at 555 North, St. Paul
