Introduction to Baton Rouge Area Scanning
Updated: 08/20/05
The purpose of this page is to create an exchange of scanning information about the Baton Rouge, LA area. I do not plan to post information for areas that I cannot personally monitor and verify with the exception of attempting to build a complete LA State Trunk ID list.
If you want to know where the Bearcat web page gets their Trunk IDs for the Baton Rouge area, you just found it!
Why I Created This Web Page
I have had at least some interest in radio from an early age. Using small AM "Transistor" radio at night I was amazed to hear distant stations at night. At around 10 or 11 I built a short wave radio (kit from Radio Shack) with help from my dad. By the way, my dad owned the first scanner I ever saw, a four channel scanning receiver. Each channel had a knob to tune the individual frequencies.
At around 14 I bought my first CB and got on the air. In the following years I got more interested in electronics and eventually got a degree in electronics. Years later (1986 to be specific), I bought my first scanner, a PRO-2006. At that time I did not know of anyone else with a scanner so I was on my own. I used that scanner on and off for several years and eventually added an OS-456 computer interface. Being a computer programmer, this renewed my interest in scanning.
Along comes the internet. With my renewed interest in scanning, I began to search the internet for information on the Baton Rouge, LA area. There was not much information and the information available was not always up to date. This became more so when the City of Baton Rouge switched to 800 Mhz. Using my computer controlled scanner, I had the computer and scanner log possible 800 Mhz frequencies during the day then I would weed them out at night. Realizing that I had information that probably very few others had, I decided to make use of web space provided by my ISP.
Since my first efforts I have come to know many others interested in the radio hobby. Through many hours of listening and research as well as contribution from others, this site has gotten to where it is today. I wish to thank the others that have helped to complete this site.
My latest adventure into radio has been getting my Amateur Radio license and moving up to Extra Class. While I can now transmit, I'm still much more of a listener. I have also gotten back into SW listening. It's interesting to hear other points of view around the world.
I am currently trying to determine the trunk group IDs for the City of Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Ascension Parish, Iberville Parish, and Louisiana State trunking systems. The frequencies and IDs listed in the tables above are items that I have discovered or have been contributed by other people. Most of the information is obtained by a combination of listening to scanners, using Trunker, CD databases, online databases and the world wide web. A lot of the information is educated guesses using the information available so therefore may contain errors.
