Extending the range of the
CELESTRON ULTIMA 2000
Hand Control Unit

Supplies you will need:

I have run into several situations where I wanted to operate the Ultima 2000 from further away than the hand control cord would allow. So I decided to solve the problem by acquiring a longer cord. My first look at the cord showed it uses the same clips that a telephone handset cord does. Could it be as easy as purchasing a long handset cord? Unfortunately, no. Upon closer examination I found the wires in the Ultima 2000 hand control cord are straight through while in a telephone handset cord they are rolled:

I was able to find all the supplies at the local electronics shop (please note that Radio Shack does not carry the telephone handset clips or the appropriate crimping tool). The cost was less than $10. Once the supplies were purchased it was a simple matter to strip the wire and attach the telephone handset clips, making sure not to roll the wires.

Note that there is probably some limit as to how far the hand control unit can be operated from the Ultima 2000 base (I doubt it would work over 100 feet). I am currently operating it at 20 feet with no problems.
