Controlling the
CELESTRON ULTIMA 2000
with
TheSky Astronomy Software

The following screen shots are from version 4 of TheSky. Version 5 is very similar.

  1. Power up your computer and start TheSky.
  2. Make sure you have selected the Ultima 2000 under the Telescope Setup menu. Also make sure that you are using the correct com port and that the baud rate is set to 9600.

  3. Power up the Ultima 2000 and align the scope as you normaly would.
  4. Insure the hand controller is displaying one of the 8 main menus (Align, Go To, Catalog, Position, Identify, Timer, Setup, Tour)
  5. Establish a link via TheSky telescope menu or the icon in the toolbar.

If everything is OK then you should see a reticle appear on the screen indicating the current position of the Ultima 2000.

If there is a problem establishing the link (e.g. you fail to follow step 4) then the following error message will appear:

While the link is established the hand controller must remain on one of the 8 main menus. If you enter any of the sub-menus the link will be disconnected. To re-establish the link you will need to perform steps 4 & 5 above. You may move the Ultima 2000 by hand or use the directional (diamond) buttons without affecting the link.
