The Ultima 2000 is a Schmidt-Cassegrain design. It has an 8 inch
aperture, 80 inch focal length, and an f/ratio of 10 (reduceable to 6.3 with the optional
focal reducer/corrector). Both the primary and secondary mirrors have Celestron's Starbright Coating while the corrector
plate has anti-reflective coatings (MgF2) on both sides.
The altitude and azimuth axis each contain a slewing and tracking motor. An optical encoder on each axis allows the scope to be moved manually without losing its alignment. Power is supplied by either 8 AA alkaline batteries or an external power supply (12 VDC). The OTA is 16 inches long, 9 inches in diameter, and fits neatly inside its own carrying case. Total weight of the scope and base is 31 pounds. The tripod is an additional 19 pounds. |
