DUBLIN

Our host pastor in Dublin! A dedicated man of God. He and his wife and family allowed us to stay with them in their home for a week. They taught us the history of Ireland and told us of the dedication of the people who are trying to introduce the land to God and bring them into salvation so they will really "know" the Lord Jesus as their Savior. One of the most spiritual meetings we attended on this trip was at their home. We felt very privileged to meet this family. They lived outside the city and traveled from city to city setting up meetings to preach the gospel. He has a marvelous vision for God's work.

One of my favorite pictures of Ireland. A beautiful lady in her Rose Garden! So peaceful and delicate yet so strong.  She very happily posed for us as we strolled down her road.

The streets of Dublin, Ireland. It is a very large city with millions of people. We had a very difficult time locating a place to stay for 2 days as we ended up being in the city at the same time as the Tall Ships of the World! We finally were able to reach our hosts and go to the country side of Ireland just outside Dublin. Dublin is an overwhelming city! There is much history to learn here!! Take a tour of the city on a tour bus, it is the best way to see most of the city and get an idea of what really is there. University, Brewery, Churches, Banks, Municipal Buildings and many more exciting sites that are right on the river. There are few active churches here, we must pray!

We had just come from Belfast the day before. We were in Belfast the day after the Omagh bombing. It was just such a devastating event. The entire country was affected and everywhere you would see the sadness and the desire for peace in Ireland. We went to Dublin from Belfast by bus and were able to see some of the beautiful country side which helped us realize there is much to love in Ireland and we prayed for peace and we prayed Ireland would as a country depend on God to bring this peace about and to love one another!

WOW! It was all I could say when we saw the Tall Ships of the World in Dublin. We were amazed at their size up close. It was like looking up at a skyscraper. Miles of them along the river front in Dublin. A great event for the city. The next and greatest event will be their coming to the Lord and learning to really know Him!!

This eternal flame is in remembrance of all who died for the freedom of Ireland.

As we know, this part of Ireland is predominantly Catholic.
This is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Dublin..

The day we were in the center of Dublin there were protest marches. This is one of the groups we saw while on the bus tour of the city.   It is a very busy, social minded  and most extremely outspoken cities I have ever visited.

Saint Marks Church.  Formerly a Catholic Church building,  was purchased by the Assemblies of God and is very active in spreading the gospel in the downtown area of Dublin. The people that attend this church have been converted to Christianity out of lives of prostitution, drugs, street people and other situations that are so alive in this city. This group of Christians are reaching the city for Christ.  This was a very special day, a day of celebration and testimonies of conversions and performances of singers from an African Tribe that has started a church in Dublin. An all day event for the church.   They served hamburgers and french fries at lunch to all who attended, cooked of course by the members of this marvelous church.

There were Riverdance performances by a group of young girls. All little girls and some big girls in Ireland want to learn to Riverdance, a native dance.

The youth group performed outside in a tremendous performance of dance and song to spiritual music.  It rained while they were in the middle of their dance, but they kept right on going. I thought to myself, what dedication.

Everyone ran for cover under the trees and up against the building donning their umbrellas, but still watching the youth group sing and dance. What a great group of people.

My favorite photograph at the church day!   Truly Irish!!

Dublin was an exciting place to be. Much happened while we were there and we made some lifelong friends.  After leaving Dublin by ferry in the southern part of Ireland over to Bristol, we visited England for a week and saw some of our relatives. We did not have speaking engagements in England. It was a delightful stop over however.  Each country has it's own unique beauty. We flew from Heathrow in London to Iceland for a one day stopover which you will see on the next page. After that the next trip was Chile - Temuco where Jim went alone. I stayed home on this trip but intend to go on the next one  - maybe Brazil or even Israel-  Wherever God leads!
